ABT Chapter 0008: Assist from Li's Mom

"Uncle, have you offended anyone recently?" Li Fan furrowed his brows and asked.

Dong Jianguo paused for a moment, then shook his head lightly. "What kind of person I am, you and your dad should know. Your dad asked me the same question, but I thought about it all night, and I really couldn't think of anyone."

This was strange. Li Fan propped his chin with his hand, pondering the ins and outs of the situation. 

The person who left the car must have had some ulterior motive. He claimed to be from out of town, but if he could afford such a good car, he must have been staying in a hotel with parking facilities. Insisting on leaving the car at the repair shop was suspicious.

But the group who came to retrieve the car was even more suspicious. They could have reported it to the police and let them handle the situation. Since the car was found, there was no reason for them to resort to violence. And according to Dong Jianguo's recollection, he definitely didn't knock over the tool rack himself. That meant they wanted to damage the car as well. 

This was definitely a setup and framing!

But why would they use such an expensive car for a setup? Dong Jianguo had neither money nor power.

While Li Fan was pondering, another person entered the ward.

It was a police officer in uniform.

The officer walked straight over and asked Dong Jianguo, "Are you Dong Jianguo? Yesterday we received a report claiming that you were suspected of stealing a car. After the car was recovered, you assaulted someone and damaged the vehicle. The other party demands compensation of fifty thousand yuan for the hospitalization expenses and an additional one hundred and fifty thousand yuan for the vehicle repairs..."

Before he could finish, Li's mother exploded, "Nonsense! They attacked my brother first. Just look at how he's beaten up! Yet they're the ones pressing charges!"

The police officer glanced at Li's mother and said, "We are simply following the principles of civil mediation. Please don't get agitated."

Li's mother angrily retorted, "How can I not be agitated! Have you even investigated the whole situation? I'm going to sue them for framing and malicious accusations!"

Cheng Ke, who had been listening attentively, stood up. Although she didn't fully understand the situation, her family members were involved in legal professions. She felt that the police officer's words were unfair and seemed biased towards the other party without investigating thoroughly.

She echoed Li's mother, "Exactly! Your words are too irresponsible."

Li's mother was pleased to see Cheng Ke siding with her and pulled her close, feeling a hundred times more fond of her. 

Mother and daughter-in-law united in their hostility, glaring at the police officer.

Being stared at by two women was uncomfortable for the officer. He tightened his tie and said, "The other party has proposed to waive the hospitalization expenses. After all, both sides were involved in a physical altercation and suffered injuries. However, the car was indeed damaged. The hood and left fender need to be replaced. As there are no spare parts domestically, they need to be imported, hence the request for compensation. Legally speaking, this is reasonable. Even if it goes to court, the outcome would likely be similar. Please consider it. Here is my contact card. If you need to communicate with the other party, come find me."

With that, he left after leaving his business card.

Li Fan clenched his fists as he held the card. It seemed that they were targeting Dong Jianguo. There must be some ulterior motive!

But what was it for?

He discreetly tucked the business card into his pocket, determined to meet with the officer and clear things up.

The commotion was observed by others in the ward, and they joined in the discussion, analyzing the situation indignantly, while the parties directly involved remained silent.

After a moment of daze, Dong Jianguo stubbornly insisted that Li Fan and the others go home.

Of course, they wouldn't leave him alone in the hospital.

Just as Li's mother was about to explode, she suddenly saw her brother blink.

Li's mother was quite a sharp woman.

In an instant, she conveyed a look of understanding and said, "Alright, alright, you win. Since there's nothing urgent now, let Li stay here with you, and we'll go home first. Okay?"

Dong Jianguo nodded and gave his sister an approving look with his eyes.

Li's mother instructed a few words to Li's father beside her, then packed up and forcibly dragged Li Fan and Cheng Ke home.

Li's mother was quite a shrewd one! 

When Cheng Ke entered the house, she could tell from her son's expression that they weren't in a romantic relationship. But Li's mother was quite a sly one!

She had made up her mind early on, pretending to be ignorant while actually knowing everything, determined to create opportunities for her son.

How could she not know who Li Fanyu was? He was clumsy, not good at charming girls, while other kids already had partners in middle school, this little brat just knew how to fool around.

If it were about Li Fanyu himself, finding a girlfriend with half the conditions of Cheng Ke would already require extraordinary effort.

She had to give her son a helping hand, ignite a spark between them.

"You seem really close to your uncle?"

Cheng Ke: "You like cars? Oh oh oh, we have one at home too."

Li Fanyu immediately snatched the magazine away, feeling an urge to tie Cheng Ke up.

There's a joke online that says, you can tell how much a boy cherishes his girlfriend by where he often takes her.

Frequent trips to restaurants mean he spoils you, not afraid of you getting fat.

Li Fanyu rolled up the magazine and stuffed it into his pocket.
